W.Ellinwood, George {I0663} (b. 7 NOV 1803, d. 2 OCT 1871)
Note: In 1924,Ira O. Ellinwood wrote the following about his father to Ralph O.Ellinwood.

I cannot remember the day when he could do a full days work. Was something of a politician, was supervisor of the town for a time. Held the office of Justice of the Peace for upwards of thirty years.Never woukld try a lawsuit if he could help it. I have known him to refuse to issue warrants till a mad man would cool off and the man would not want it. I have known him to throw off his legal fees to effect a settlement. His princical business for many years was the drawing of legal papers for which he became widely known. About 1855 he sold his farm and moved to Siloam. He died at Reedburg, Wisconsin,/October 2, 1871/while on a visit there and was buried there. He was six feet tall, fair proportioned, and weighed about 170 pounds when in fair health.

These was information from records compiled by Ralph O.Ellinwood to his son Alexander Preston Ellinwood.

Ellinwoood, Samuel Coe {I0665} (b. 19 DEC 1809, d. 15 OCT 1850)
Note: Samuel was a shoemaker by trade. At first he lived in Smithfield,New York.Sometime between 1844 and 1847 he moved to Ohio but returned with his family in a "prairie schooner" in the summer of 1849 or 1850.He died on October 15,1850,at Smithfield.
His nephew has described an incident in his final illness:

He was sick at the house of our nearest neighbor, probably an eighth of a mile away.Fever,I think, became deranged. Was in a small room on the first floor, one night when a young man of the neighborhood was sitting up with him. The young man placed a chair in the open doorway and set down on it. About midnight he fell asleep in his chair.Uncle got up,wrapped a quilt around himself (did not dress himself) and in some manner, probably through the window, got out of the house and came to our house. Father heard him and went to the door. I was sleeping in a room off the living room.Father very unceremoniously jerked me out of bed and got Uncle in.Mother, who was a good nurse,in a very few minutes had some hot flat irons wrapped in wet cloths tucked around Uncle, and soon had perspiration started. The Dr.the next day said he did not think that the exposure done any harm.

Ellinwood, Hananiah {I0667} (b. 7 JAN 1757, d. 3 JAN 1833)
Note: Hananiah ,or Ananias, second son of Thomas(1728-1804) and Abigail King, was born on January 07,1757,in Brimfield,Massachusetts.
There is a tradition in the Ellinwood family that "Uncle Niah" was sent by his father with an ox team to take provisions to the Continental Army outside Boston. Some of the men bet that he couldn"t crawl through their cannon, which he acrually did.
He served as a private in capt.Joseph Thompson's Company of Minutemen,Col.Timothy Danielson's Regiment, which marched on the alarm of
April 19,1775,serving at that time for 16 1/2 days. He then re-enlisted and served 3 months,10 days.
He must have served another short term for he is listed on a return of the same Company at Roxbury,October 06,1775, and was issued a bounty coat on November 07,1775,at Roxbury.
He married Esther Marsh in Brimfield on july 02,1778.

In 1788 the family moved westward into New York State. The census of 1790 states that he lived in Whites Town,Montgomery County, and that his household consisted of three adult men,two boys, and four females.
On September 26, 1791,Hananiah was elected one of six trustees in the newly organized church in the township, the street due east from Clinton Village was for many years called Brimfield Street because so many of its residents had immigrated from Brimfield,Massachusetts.
Here the fam,ily pioneered on a farm cut out of the virgin forest.A grandson,Rueben C.,was still living on the farm in 1896.
Hananiah died in Clinton on jan.03,1833.

Ellinwood, Thomas {I0678} (b. 1 AUG 1728, d. 31 MAY 1804)
Note: Thomas [1] the only son of Thomas (1703-1772) and Abigail Wallis was born in Beverly, but spent most of his childhood in Woodstock, moving to Brimfield with the famil ca.1745. He was not mentioned in the seating arrangements of the Brimfield church when he was 18 years old,but was given a gallery seat as noted above in the second seating when he was 29 years old. He had been admitted to church membership two years earlier,in November,1755.
He first married Abigail king on November 16,1750.
This first wife,Abigail, died August 11,1761.A year and a half later,January 13,1763,he married Mary Babcock. They had eight children.
This second wife,Mary, died on July 15,1783.Two yeras later, thomas married a third wife, the widow Lucy Smith, on June 3,1785.Thomas himself died in his 76th year,on May 31,1804.
We do not know Thomas' trade or profession, but being his father's only son he probably worked as a carpenter also, and undoubtedly inherited the family farm. Like his father
he was active in community affairs. He served as a selectman of Brimfield in 1769, and again in 1775.He was an assessor 1766-68,1773-76,1780-81,and 1784.
He also was active in local Revolutionary affairs. On January 14,1773,he was chosen as one of five members of the local Committee of Grievance against the Acts of Pariament. With his oldest son,Daniel, and other inhabitants of Brimfield,he signed the Covenant to boycott all british goods on July 01,1774.A short time later, he was elected one of five members of a local Committee of Correspondence,Inspection, and Safety. He was too old and had too many family responsibilities for military service itself, but on the lists, prepared Aug.11,1779,of estimates of past services performed for or in the Continental Army,he was awarded 9,to be deducted from his taxes. He may nevertheless have been the Thomas who served with Jonathan in June,1782,during Shay's Rebellion.
On November 24,1777,he conveyed to Edmund Giles of Beverly his share (one-fifth)of a parcel of land left by his grandfather for the support of the latter's invalid daughter,Aunt Abigail.

Ellinwood, Samuel {I0683} (b. 4 NOV 1758, d. ?)
Note: Samuel of reading served first for eight days in Capt. John Flint's Company, Col. David Green's Regiment, probably on the alarm of April 19,1775. On a list dated "Reading, Second parish, May 15, 1775, another enlistment is re-corded, duration not specified. A Samuel Elenwood of Beverly (also Reading) received one month's advance pay at Cambridge on june 8, 1775, as a private in capt. Asa prince's company, Col. john mansfield's (19th) regiment. He is on its muster role dated August 01, 1775, as having enlisted May 19, 1775. He is on return dated October 06, 1775, with the same company and regiment, then commanded by Lt. Col.Israel hutchinson, and received a bounty coat on december 21, 1775.There is present way of proving that it was always the same Samuel Ellinwood, but since the redords do not conflict in dates we may so assume for the present.Private Samuel Ellinwood then enlisted in Capt. Jesse Wyman's Company, Col. jacob Gerrish's regiment of guards on February 18, 1878, and served until May 18, 1778, at bunker Hill, guarding Lt. Gen. Burgoyne's captured army. On a list of men raised from the 3rd Middlesex County Regiment to reinforce the Continental Army for a term of nine months, capt. Flint's Company, Col.Fox's regiment, he is described as 20 years of age
and 5 feet, 7 inches, inheight. zhe arrived at Fishkill on july 27, 1778. Then in 1780, he is included in a list of men raised for six months service, mustered by Brig. Gen. The petition stated that she was very young and "would rather die than live with this man."etc. Various people testified as to her good character,
and two men("one a chirurgeon")
were ordered by the court to report on Ralph's condition.
He was married to Martha Rowlandson(Marthew Robinson) at Marblehead on August 19/20,1691.
Ralph's wife, presumably Sarah, was admitted to membership in the Beverly church on january 20,1727/8.Ralph ll is said to have died ca.1740,but may have died shortly after the birth of Anbiel, for Sarah Ellinwood, widow, married Zebulun Allen in Salem on may 30,1730.
Ralph's will specified shares of his estate to sons Ralph,Israel,Ebenezer,Thomas; daughters Returne,Martha, and Abigail-- the latter "of the improvements on one half of my real estate during her life, she not being able to provide for herself while in ye world.

A precious one from us has gone
A voice we loved is stilled
